Zelens products are formulated by Dr Marko Lens, a research scientist and an international authority on skin ageing and skin cancer.

Dr Lens is a plastic and reconstructive surgeon, Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England. He received a Master of Science degree from Harvard University and a PhD degree from Oxford University in the field of skin cancer. Dr Lens has published many scientific articles in peer-reviewed medical journals and throughout his career has presented research results and lectures at many national and international meetings.

His extensive research into the pivotal role of antioxidants in protecting the skin from the deleterious effects of free radicals leading to skin damage and premature ageing, led him to create Zelens Skin Science – the range of advanced cosmeceuticals.

Scientific Background

Comprehensive understanding of skin damage and ageing at the molecular and biochemical level was essential for the development of the Zelens cosmeceuticals.

Environmental factors such as ultraviolet light, pollution, cigarette smoke, alcohol and stress cause oxidative injury characterized by the formation of free radicals, which are highly reactive molecules. Free radicals may damage cell membranes, cellular structures and DNA. Accumulation of the oxidative damage generated by free radicals is a primary mechanism causing premature skin ageing.

Critical to slowing down premature skin ageing is the use of antioxidants to fight free radicals and neutralise skin damage caused by them.
